Plant Trees, Grow Your Own Food, Tend Livestock.

Grant (HomesteadOfPayne on Instagram and TikTok) joins me as we share our homesteading dreams and plans for the coming year.

Grant shares about his Ossabaw Thei heritage pigs. He also has Kune Kune/Juliana mix pigs. He encloses them in a huge pen of IBC totes!

Grant is also known in our group for his wheeling and dealing, buying in bulk from his local nurseries and hardware stores at the end of the season, where he traded for 800 daffodils and 300 tulips.

We also discuss Planting flowers around fruit trees in a permaculture guild.

I also share my plans for Milpa gardening this year.

Seeds and trees have “memory”. They thrived and reproduced in a certain climate.

Often when you buy chestnut trees or seeds online, you have to buy from nurseries in the Northeast or Southeast US, or the Pacific Northwest.

Take it from us, trees grown in those climates do not do well in Kansas.

Buying from our Kansas homestead, with nut trees grown and adapted to the Midwest, will make them much more likely to be successful on your homestead or in your yard.
