Thriving the Future is Still Thriving Four Years Later

Thriving the Future has been sharing “positive solutions to help you Thrive” for over four years now.

A little bit of Lore:

It started in the dark depths of Covid when every post online and in community groups was doomscrolling or conspiracy theories (yes, even worse than today).

My friend Perpend (David) and I were having deep conversations on our way to events for our new local small community group. It seemed like no one was talking about these kind of topics –

• Growing and foraging our own local food
• Forming local community
• Taking our side hustles or side business to the next level by honestly asking “Who is My Customer?”, as well as Overcoming Imposter Syndrome.
• Homesteading and gardening
• Developing Skills over buying more Stuff (Skills Over Stuff).
• How to Use Your Job Rather Than Your Job Using You.
• Living not by Lies. (Very on-point in 2021, and even more important today). We were heavily influenced by Rod Dreher’s “Live Not By Lies” book, and Solzhenitsyn and Havel, as we watched the warnings of the Eastern Europeans come true in real life in Karen-land, USA.
• So much so that slowly we both embraced Faith and Tradition and becoming Orthodox.

We kept it positive, because in the pre-Elon days of Twitter you would be cancelled otherwise. And it was the right thing to do.

Seeking community, Perpend became Brother David, an Orthodox monk, and is now at the Monastery of St. John (of Shanghai and San Francisco) in CA.

I continued on with this message, even as things went back to “Normal” (maybe it was the “New Normal”). I included other Thriving voices, regulars like Grant Payne and Homestead Padre, as well as guests Andy Hickman, Roman Shapla of Nature School, Jason Snyder from Doomer Optimism, and others.

The times continue to be uncertain. And today we still need that positive message. We need more Bloomscrolling, not Doomscrolling.
